Five weeks after suffering a heart attack, Fullerton School District Supt. Ron Cooper returned to work last week in high spirits.

The administrator was under doctor’s orders to spend the time recuperating. Cooper kept in touch with district staff but asked co-workers not to visit so his recovery would be as smooth as possible, he said.

“It seemed like an eternity,” Cooper said.

Cooper was greeted at the office with flowers, food and an oversized heart-shaped card signed by more than 25 teachers and staff at Hermosa Drive Elementary School, where Cooper was a principal. He also received hundreds of cards at home from members of the community, he said.
