Intensive Hospital Care

Share

When Dr. Milo Tedstrom arrived in Anaheim 71 years ago to join a medical practice, the area lacked many of the things we now take for granted--such as a heart specialist.

As the first board-certified cardiologist and internist in the county, he saw patients who formerly had to go to Los Angeles for care.

On Oct. 16, Tedstrom, 98, of Laguna Woods, will receive an award from the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation for his 48 years of medical service.

Tedstrom was at St. Joseph when the Orange hospital opened in 1929..

He’s also credited with starting Southern California’s first intensive care unit, in 1962, and forming the county’s first branches of the American Diabetes Assn. and the American Heart Assn.

He served as chief of staff at St. Joseph and retired in 1977.

Hospital supporter Eleanor Graham, 88, of Santa Ana will also receive an award.
