Kim vs. Rodriguez Headlines Irvine Card

Share

Undefeated lightweight Dustin Kim of Honolulu takes on Daniel Rodriguez of Las Vegas in tonight’s main event at the Irvine Marriott.

Kim (11-0, seven knockouts) is coming off an eight-round majority decision over Juan Carlos Martinez of Mexico in June. Rodriguez, trained by Miguel Diaz of Top Rank Inc., is 18-2 with 13 knockouts.

The Kim-Rodriguez fight replaces the Raul Franco-Eric Hernandez welterweight bout. Franco had to pull out after he injured his thumb during sparring. Marriott promoter Roy Englebrecht said he is hoping to get Franco or undefeated Huntington Beach light heavyweight Julio Gonzalez for his Dec. 2 show.

On the undercard, Fountain Valley featherweight Joe Shedarowich and La Habra middleweight Enrique Ornalas will make their professional debuts in four-round fights. Shedarowich faces Jesus Corral (2-1) of Los Angeles and Ornalas meets Rigoberto Plascencia (2-0) of Sylmar.

The nearly sold-out show begins at 7:30 p.m. The main event will start about 9 or 9:30.

Englebrecht said he has signed with the Marriott to do seven shows next year. He is also negotiating to promote the first boxing show at the Staples Center.
