GE’s 3rd-Quarter Net Income Rises 16%

General Electric Co. said its third-quarter profit rose 16% to $2.65 billion, or 80 cents a share, over the same period a year ago, helped by strong growth in its aircraft engines, power systems and NBC divisions. The results beat analysts’ estimates by a penny. Revenue rose 13% to $27.2 billion. GE said operating profit in the power-systems division rose 51% on a 28% jump in sales and that operating profit in aircraft engines was up 28% as sales rose 3%. NBC’s operating profit grew 31% on a 4% rise in sales, and finance unit GE Capital saw a 17% rise in profit and a 17% jump in revenue. GE shares eased $1.81 to close at $121.88 on the NYSE.
