Teenage Moms
Re “Teenage Mothers Should Get Married,” Commentary, Oct. 4: Rather than advise young women to marry the father of their baby, who usually leaves her faster than you can say “shotgun wedding,” why aren’t we advocating responsible choices like adoption?
This choice lets mature, stable, loving couples who are unable to have biological children become parents at a time when they are truly prepared for parenthood. It certainly seems a much wiser one than Dana Mack’s recommendation of encouraging kids who are unskilled, uneducated and not yet emotionally ready to become role models for future generations.
In open adoption, young women have a chance to watch their child grow up in a healthy, stable environment and have the chance to finish childhood and get the education and job skills they will need to become healthy, functioning and productive adults.
