Fair Turns Fighting Pollution Into Fun
Residents are invited to learn how to keep their environment cleaner during a pollution prevention fair Saturday.
Visitors will compete for prizes in an environmental “Wheel of Fortune”-type game during the fair at Juan Bautista De Anza Park, said Heather Lea Merenda, the city’s Storm Water Program manager. Contestants will face questions on recycling, water and air quality, and pollution prevention, she said.
Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay will teach children about ocean life at its booth, where kids can make paper kelp, Merenda said.
A flatbed “oilmobile” will accept latex paint, car batteries, antifreeze, used motor oil and vehicle oil filters for recycling.
There will also be a creek cleanup at nearby A.E. Wright Middle School. Participants must wear gloves, pants and long-sleeve shirts, Merenda said.
The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at De Anza Park, 3701 Lost Hills Road.
