McNabb Waits His Turn

Share

Donovan McNabb, the No. 2 pick in the draft and the future of the Philadelphia Eagles, continues to sit and watch as the worst offense in the league founders. The Eagles, who have gone with veteran backup Doug Pederson as their starter, haven’t scored a touchdown in their last 46 possessions, and have netted only 59 yards on 56 second-half passes.

Why not let McNabb learn on the job, the way Troy Aikman once did with the Dallas Cowboys?

“I’ve heard some people say that they feel it’s better to bring a young quarterback along slowly,” said Aikman, whose Cowboys face the Eagles on Sunday. “I’ve heard others say that you don’t really learn unless you’re in the fire and kind of learning on the job. I don’t really know which is best. I was thrown in there immediately and took my lumps along with the football team.”

Aikman was 0-11 as a starter in 1989, his rookie season.
