Coastal Waters Must Be Protected

Share

* My, my. The Environmental Health Department has finally recognized the danger the beaches of Southern California pose to the people.

Billions of gallons of sewage effluent discharged into the ocean daily don’t pose a hazard?

Wake up and smell the ocean; the sea breeze isn’t bearing the freshness of the ocean, it’s carrying the stench of sewage.

* Re “An All-Points Bulletin: Coast Must Be Cleared,” Orange County Voices, Sept. 12:

Recent pollution crises delivered a compelling reminder of the importance of clean coastal waters.

Urban runoff degrades our county’s economy and quality of life. Fortunately, the Huntington Beach disaster will never be repeated in Crystal Cove State Park.

A concerned Irvine Co. and watchful county officials have seen to it that modern pollution control methods are incorporated into the million-dollar houses and exclusive golf courses being built above Orange County’s last pristine beaches.

Runoff from every new road, fertilized lawn and pesticide-soaked putting green will be channeled into modern sewage treatment facilities to prevent it from cascading onto the public beaches and marine life refuge below.

Right?
