A Seamless Takeoff--From Your Room

Wouldn’t it be nice to check in for your flight home without ever leaving your hotel room? Actually, it’s already possible at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, which opened last week, claiming to be the world’s first hotel to offer such a service.

Although some Las Vegas hotels, for instance, let guests check in for National Airlines flights from their lobbies, the Fairmont Vancouver does them one better: An airline attendant comes to guests’ rooms, gives them boarding passes, tags their luggage and takes it to the flight. A couple of hitches: Guests must be in one of the 36 so-called Entree Gold rooms on the hotel’s top floor (about $37 extra, on top of regular room rates starting at about $133) and must fly Air Canada or Canadian Airlines.

Another service is open to all guests for free: checking in to the hotel from Vancouver International Airport’s baggage claim area, where attendants claim your bags and give you your room key. The 392-room hotel, located in the airport, also has a restaurant, pool and health spa. It is run by Canadian Pacific Ltd. Reservations: tel. (800) 441-1414.
