Foster Children
Re “Foster Children on Medication Get Protections,” Sept. 30:
The practice of drugging our foster kids into submission with experimental and mind-altering “chemical cocktails” will one day be viewed as a practice from the Dark Ages. You can put a child who has just lost his family into a “chemical straitjacket” but you can’t fool him into thinking it is help. Gov. Gray Davis is to be commended for approving the first step toward regulating this practice, but the practice itself needs to be outlawed. Abused children need love and communication, not numbing drugs with side effects that are just one more form of abuse.
