Klaus Guttau; Directed Oaks Mall Construction

Klaus Guttau, a construction executive, died at his Westlake Village home Sunday after battling cancer for nearly two years. He was 65.

He was born in 1934 in Neustadt, Germany, where he attended school.

In May 1966, Guttau married Helga, and the couple immigrated to the United States the following month. They moved to Santa Monica, where their two sons were born.

In 1979, the family moved to Westlake Village.

Guttau worked for the Ernest W. Hahn Co. and was the director of construction for The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks. He also worked for Zelman Development Corp. of Santa Monica, where he was the vice president and director of construction.

He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and hunting with his sons and his dog, Buddy.

In addition to his wife of 33 years, Guttau is survived by sons Eric and Bjoern of Westlake Village; brother Ernst and sister Christa Wippich, both of Germany.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.
