A Los Angeles Unified School District construction contractor is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges of bribing a school district inspector.

Kambiz “Ken” Maleki, owner of K & M Construction in Woodland Hills, is alleged to have slipped the inspector $500 in a box of cookies after a disagreement over whether substandard workmanship and materials were used to upgrade technology and safety at Coliseum Street Elementary School.

According to the Los Angeles district attorney’s office, Maleki, 43, would have had to correct the problems before the inspector would approve the job.

On March 18, Maleki allegedly gave the inspector a box with five $100 bills slipped between two layers of cookies.

The inspector notified his superiors and Maleki turned himself in to authorities Friday. He will be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
