What: Motorsports Web site.

Where: www.ppgmotorsports.com

A new site, launched last month for racing fans who can’t get enough information through other channels, provides data and features of racing series in which PPG Motorsports is involved.

If you’re a NASCAR fan, and most racing fans are, the information is limited to mostly Rusty Wallace, for whom the automotive paint finish company is an associate sponsor. Other NASCAR data is a bit sparse, but PPG says to be patient, that as with any new site, a certain amount of adjusting must take place.

Featured are articles, news, schedules and updated point standings from CART, Indy Lights and the Indy Racing League, all series in which PPG has a major involvement.

Among recent features have been a speculation story on the future of Al Unser Jr., who was recently let go by Team Marlboro Penske and is said to be headed for the IRL and Rick Galles and a story on pace car driver Joanne Loh, who doubles as a rocket scientist (technically, she is program manager, space instruments, for NASA).

Another click leads viewers to a top menu bar with these choices: CART, the IRL, Indy Lights, NASCAR, Inside News, Merchandise and Screen Saver. One of the site’s more interesting features is its “champions” and “record book” sections in the CART area, which provides a list of series champions from 1979 to 1998.

There is no such information for NASCAR, however.

The site needs some work for easier access of information and more depth, but it is worthy of a look and is a good one-stop source for updates.
