BREA

A local teenager could be helping to guide the city’s future.

The Planning Commission voted this week to recommend that a high school student be appointed as youth advisor to the commission. The City Council is expected to vote on the matter Tuesday.

The advisor would be selected from students at Brea Olinda High School and would sit in at Planning Commission meetings. By creating the post, the commission hopes to involve Brea youth in its decisions about the city’s future planning and development.

The youth advisor, who would start attending meetings in November, won’t have voting power. The advisor’s comments would be considered the same as those of residents addressing the commission at a public hearing.

But the advisor would receive some official perks, like business cards, a name plate and a name tag.
