Los Alamitos Unified trustees Monday approved an independent contractor agreement with Straight Talk Clinic Inc. to provide counseling services aimed primarily at high school students at risk for drug, alcohol and tobacco use.

The cost of services will not exceed $20,000, and fees will be paid from Title IV Safe and Drug Free School Funds from Oct. 11 to June 17, 2000.

Rick Riegel, the campus and community services director for Straight Talk--a United Way agency--said the program provides support to schools on an individual or group basis through classroom presentations and training for teachers and staff. He will be meeting with school officials Monday to discuss the specifics of the agreement, including time of services.
