Carpet Store’s Foundation Laid by Service and Pricing

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Thirty years ago, brothers Martin and Charles Felikian came to this country from Armenia with little else but a willingness to work hard and provide a solid future for their family.

They opened a carpet store that for 25 years was a family business that prided itself on service and pricing that would keep their loyal customers coming back.

Five years ago, they joined one of the largest buying groups in the country, Carpet One, and the family business tripled its volume and added two locations.

They purchase truckloads of Karastan close-outs and discontinued lines at low prices that are passed on to the consumer. More than 2,000 yards of 100% nylon Berber are in stock and going for $15.99 a square yard.

This sells elsewhere for $32.99 a square yard.

The rush of the last few years for Pergo-like laminate flooring hasn’t been overlooked; trailer-load purchases from Austria allow them to sell it at $1.99 a square foot when others are asking $3.29.

Solid hardwood flooring from Bruce, with a manufacturer’s warranty of 20 years, is being offered at an all-time low of $4.99 a square foot.

Martin’s son, Gregory, is at the helm these days, determined to carry on the family tradition. In weekly sales meetings, he reminds his staff, “You must help the customer with the same care, whether they need a small remnant for their bathroom or a whole house of flooring.”

Felikian’s Carpet One, 188 N. Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena. (626) 795-2821. Other locations in city of Industry and Lakewood.
