Cable Show Will Explore Legal Issues

Share

Later this month, local attorneys plan to launch a weekly public television show on two Ventura cable systems to address a wide range of legal issues affecting the community.

Entitled “Law Talk,” the program will feature two or more lawyers and a moderator debating various legal topics, including product safety, right to privacy and how new legislation will impact consumers.

Members of the Ventura County Bar Assn.’s public education committee recently came up with the idea of a half-hour television program, hoping to demystify the court process and educate the public on significant legal issues.

“We want people to understand and appreciate their rights and be better informed on what the laws are and how the system works,” said committee Chairman Dennis LaRochelle.

The show will air on Channel 6 at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21, 28 and Nov. 4 on Avenue and Century cables in Ventura. It will also run at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 29 and Nov. 5.

Retired Appellate Court Justice Steven Stone will moderate the first program on product safety. Panelists include Oxnard attorneys Greg Ramirez and Carol Woo.

Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and Ventura attorney Frederick Bysshe will discuss new legislation in a November show entitled: “Did Consumers Win or Lose This Year in Sacramento?”
