Re “An Insider’s View of UC Admissions,” Oct. 6: Perhaps someone should explain Bob Laird’s job to him. Being in charge of admissions to California’s premier public school, his job is to be responsible to the people of this state by taking the best and brightest high school students and preparing them to lead, innovate, invent.
His job is not to repair the ills and inequities he perceives in today’s society. Opportunities abound for him in many other venues to effect the changes he would like to see, but they do not lie in his current position at UC Berkeley.
