Third-string running back Joe Hall, a 300-pounder from Lakewood Artesia High, rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns and Jamie Rheem kicked four field goals, including a wind-aided 57-yarder, as ninth-ranked Kansas State defeated Utah State, 40-0, Saturday in a nonconference game at Manhattan, Kan.

The Wildcats (6-0) made the Aggies (2-4) their second shutout victim of the season and beat an unranked opponent at home for the 48th time in a row.

Quincy Morgan made it 26-0 midway through the fourth quarter with a beautiful piece of open-field running. He took Jonathan Beasley’s pass on third and 13 in the right flat, ran back toward the middle of the field and then threaded his way 32 yards into the end zone.

A moment after Hall’s second touchdown, Milton Proctor intercepted Jose Fuentes’ pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, putting the Wildcats ahead, 40-0, late in the fourth quarter.

Rheem, with a powerful, gusty wind at his back, was four for four, including three field goals in the first quarter. His 57-yarder, seven yards short the school record, came with 2:09 left in the quarter.

Hall came off the bench after David Allen, Kansas State’s sensational punt returner, injured his right leg late in the first quarter and is expected to be out two to three weeks.

Allen started in place of Frank Murphy, who missed his second game with an ankle injury.

Kansas State held Demario Brown, who had been averaging 135 yards rushing, to nine in 14 carries. The Aggies had minus-seven yards on the ground.

No. 13 Texas A&M; 34, Kansas 17--For the second year in a row, the Jayhawks did a pretty good job of scaring the Aggies, who rallied behind quarterback Randy McCown to win at College Station, Texas.

McCown took advantage of two Jayhawk mistakes--a roughing-the-kicker penalty and a fumble--to pass for two touchdowns and run for one in a 21-point surge over a 1:50 span that began late in the second quarter and included the start of the third.

McCown was 21 for 30 for 362 yards, with one interception as the Aggies improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference.

Last season against Kansas, McCown led the Aggies on a late 75-yard drive that rallied the Aggies to a 24-21 victory.

This time, Kansas (2-5, 0-3) had a 10-3 lead and the Aggies were facing fourth down at their 17 with less than two minutes left in the first half. But a roughing-the-kicker penalty gave Texas A&M; new life, and three plays later the Aggies scored on a 27-yard pass to Leroy Hodge.

The ensuing kickoff was fumbled, and three plays later McCown ran 15 yards for a score.

The Aggies made it 24-10 on a 78-yard touchdown pass play, McCown to Chris Taylor.

Texas Tech 31, Colorado 10--Shaud Williams ran for 230 yards and two touchdowns in 21 carries as the Red Raiders (3-3, 2-1) routed the mistake-prone Buffaloes (3-3, 2-1) at Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech broke the game open by scoring 17 points in the second quarter. Colorado lost four fumbles in the game.

Iowa State 24, Missouri 21--Darren Davis ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns and the Cyclones (3-3, 1-2) twice stopped the Tigers inside the five at Columbia, Mo., to rally from a 14-0 deficit for their first road conference victory since winning at Missouri in 1991.
