OCC Teacher Receives $30,000 Fellowship to Create Dance Work
Linda Sohl-Donnell, a dance teacher at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, has received a $30,000 Irvine Fellowship in Dance to create a work that integrates Balinese dance and American tap dance.
For the new piece, Sohl-Donnell, who also is artistic director of Los Angeles-based Rhapsody in Taps, will collaborate with Balinese composer, musician and dancer, I. Nyoman Wenten, who will write the music and direct the Indonesian gamelan musicians.
The new work, “Nusantara,” will receive its premiere at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Japan America Theatre, 244 S. San Pedro St., Los Angeles. $20-$30. (213) 680-3700.
