Hopkins to Be Interim President at View Tech

The chief executive and president of View Tech Inc. will relinquish their day-to-day responsibilities to make way for the appointment of S. Douglas Hopkins as interim president and CEO.

Hopkins will work from the company’s headquarters in Camarillo.

“Over the past several months, market pressures and opportunities have caused us to strengthen the focus of View Tech,” outgoing CEO William J. Shea said. “With the changing makeup of our business to one whose emphasis is video, and with our video headquarters and operations centralized on the West Coast, senior management must shift from Boston to California.”

Both Shea and outgoing President Franklin A. Reece live in Boston.

“It’s regrettable that neither Bill nor Frank is in a position to relocate to the West Coast,” said Paul O’Brien, View Tech chairman.

Shea will remain on the board and manage the company’s relationship with consultant H. C. Wainwright, which is searching for an alliance to accommodate the company’s continued growth.

Reece, who will also remain on the board, will continue as president of USTeleCenters and facilitate the planned divestiture of this subsidiary, which he founded in 1986 and was merged into View Tech in 1996.

Hopkins joins View Tech after 15 years as a principal of the consulting firm Nightingale & Associates LLC.

View Tech is a provider of single-source video, voice and data products. Its customers include commercial, federal and state government, medical and education institutions.
