YORBA LINDA

The City Council this week endorsed Placentia’s efforts to lower the railroad tracks at major crossings in that city, but council members were split on whether they should consider getting in on the $250-million project.

Councilman Henry W. Wedaa said he was interested in extending the track lowering into Yorba Linda, which has secured about $28 million in funding to build a bridge at one of the city’s two railroad crossings. Public Works Director Roy Stephenson said it would cost an estimated $30 million to extend the lowering from Placentia through Yorba Linda.

Mayor John M. Gullixson said he wanted the bridge project to go ahead. He and Councilwoman Barbara Kiley voted against considering the proposal supported by Wedaa and Councilman Mark Schwing.
