North Hills’ Karvasek Wins Again

Share

T.K. Karvasek’s domination of the NASCAR super-stock division at Irwindale Speedway continued Saturday night with a victory in a race shortened to 42 laps.

Karvasek of North Hills has been to victory lane nine times. He led 34 laps this time. Doug McCoun of Thousand Oaks led the other eight laps. Karvasek has unofficially won 12 super-stock races; three of those wins were thrown out because Karvasek failed post-race inspection.

Yagel Berkovitz of Burbank was bidding for his first victory of the season but was unable to get any sort of a run on Karvasek and finished second. Series champion Mike Price ended up sixth and Albert Sallie, moving up from street stock, finished 10th.

Todd Burns of Riverside won the NASCAR late-model “75” but did so without having to battle the two drivers who finished first and second in the point standings.

Late-model champion Dusty McDonald of Simi Valley and runner-up Gerrit Cromsigt of Pine Mountain Club were no-shows for the open race.

Cromsigt may not have been there, but his car was. Brian Kelley of Arleta started out well in the car, riding in the top five for the first half of the race but later dropped out and finished 26th.

The race was cut to 50 laps because of time restrictions. Burns passed Guy Goldstein on lap 47 to win his eighth race of the year.

Darren Young of Gilbert, Ariz., won the shortened 25-lap Mechanix Wear speed-truck race.
