American Airlines’ pilots union is discussing making contract concessions to the airline in exchange for the company’s erasing a $45.5-million debt imposed on the union by a judge, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The Allied Pilots Assn. and American issued a joint statement late Wednesday saying the union’s board “will consider a number of mutually developed concepts and proposals aimed at resolving a number of past and current disputes and improving the working relationship” between the two. The board has been given authorization to enter talks about possibly extending the union’s contract, which normally would not come up for talks until summer 2001.
