About a month ago, Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre had a long conversation for the first time since Holmgren left the Green Bay Packers for the Seattle Seahawks.

They spent nearly an hour talking about their seven years together, everything from countless shouting matches to their triumph in the 1997 Super Bowl.

“I guess I can turn him in. He was tampering. He was trying to work out something to get me to Seattle,” Favre joked Thursday.

Favre and Holmgren meet as foes for the first time Monday night, when the Seahawks visit Lambeau Field.

Favre had little public comment when Holmgren accepted Seattle’s offer to become executive vice president, general manager and coach.

“I don’t think anyone should ever be mad at a person for wanting to move up,” Favre said.

“That’s been a goal of his for a long time. But that doesn’t mean I won’t love to beat him on Monday night.”

Running back Leeland McElroy, out of the league since 1997, was signed by the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts also re-signed running back Scott Greene, who played in three games before being waived Oct. 13, and put running back Darick Holmes on injured reserve.

The Washington Redskins and Federal Express reportedly have reached tentative agreement on a 27-year, $200-million deal for renaming the Redskins’ 80,166-seat stadium FedEx Field.

A final agreement between Redskin owner Daniel M. Snyder and FDX Corp., Federal Express’ corporate name, is expected within a week, the Washington Post reported, citing anonymous sources.
