Angels Might Have New General Manager Today

Share

The Angels are scheduled to interview their last general manager candidate today, four weeks after Bill Bavasi’s resignation.

Dan Evans, assistant general manager of the Chicago White Sox, is to meet with Disney Chairman Michael Eisner in Burbank. Bob Watson, Omar Minaya and Jim Duquette interviewed in Burbank earlier this week, and Bill Stoneman, once hours from the job, remains a possibility. The club might offer the job as early as this afternoon, after the Evans interview. Evans was a candidate in Seattle and Milwaukee earlier this fall.

The contracts for Angel coaches Joe Maddon, Rod Carew, Dick Pole, George Hendrick, Joe Coleman and Larry Bowa expire Sunday, and the Angels are no closer to having a manager than they were the day Terry Collins resigned, nearly two months ago.

The one candidate they did interview--Phil Garner--took a job with the Detroit Tigers. Don Baylor is a strong candidate for openings with the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers.
