Temple Beth Torah S’lichot * Rabbi Lisa Hochberg-Miller will conduct a reflective S’lichot service at Temple Beth Torah in Ventura tonight at 9:30. The program will include dessert and discussion with congregants and prospective members.

On Rosh Hashana, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m., an oceanfront Tashlich service at Ventura’s Marina Beach Park will be held for the congregation “to cast away their sins with bread crumbs in the ocean.”

The morning Rosh Hashana service (Jewish New Year 5760) begins at 10 a.m. Tickets are required. Child care and children’s programs are available with prior reservation. The temple is at 7620 Foothill Road. For more information call 647-4181.

Yom Kippur Services in Simi * Congregation B’Nai Emet will hold Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services at the Rancho Santa Susana Recreation Center in Simi Valley.

Erev Rosh Hashana will be Friday at 8 p.m. Rosh Hashana services continue Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Kol Nidrei service for Yom Kippur is Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. Yom Kippur continues Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. with a children’s service at 1 p.m. and adult study session at 3:30. Concluding services begin at 4:30 p.m.

Methodist Church Classes Resume * Church school classes at Oxnard’s St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will resume on Sept. 12 at a new time, 10:10 a.m., with the children gathering in the sanctuary and attending the first few minutes of the worship celebration. A family, fun and faith program will continue through Sunday.

Bible Study at Lutheran Church * A Bible study program for adults, called “Crossways,” is being offered at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Oxnard. It is designed for those who find the Bible too big and complex to tackle, as well as those who simply want to know it better.

The program will be on Sundays at 7 p.m., beginning Sept. 12, and on Mondays at 12:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 13. Course is $15 per section. Call the church at 983-0612 for information.

Temple Etz Chaim Plans Services * Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks will hold special services for children and the entire family on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The Rosh Hashana service will begin Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. The one-hour Yom Kippur service on Sept. 20 begins at 2:30 p.m. Both are in the main sanctuary. Tickets are not required.

Church to Celebrate Birthday * Community Christian Church of Moorpark will celebrate its 13th birthday Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. with a special worship service and barbecue at Tierra Rejada Ranch.

Catholic Men’s Club to Meet * St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church Men’s Club in Thousand Oaks will hold a dinner meeting Sept. 13 at the church’s St. Thomas Aquinas hall. Forrest Fields will speak about the replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall, which toured Ventura County in July.

Catholic Church Reaching Out * People who have been thinking about returning to the Catholic church are invited to meetings Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura.

The church sets aside that time for people who have spiritual needs and want help in making a decision. A Bible study class will be held Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 14.

Camarillo Bible Study for Women * An interdenominational Bible study course for women, called “Return to Jerusalem,” will begin Sept. 15 at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Camarillo.

The course, for women of all ages, is sponsored by the Bible study group and will meet weekly throughout the school year from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Child care is held during the same hours, and there is a class for mothers with new babies.

The class will also be held during the evening in both Camarillo and Thousand Oaks for men and women. Registration is $15 for adults and $5 for children.
