Baby Boy Dies After Falling From Balcony
A 10-month-old Santa Ana boy died from injuries suffered after falling off the balcony at his family’s third-floor apartment, police said Friday.
At about 10:24 a.m. Thursday, Kenny Valle slipped beneath a safety railing and fell while his mother was in the bathroom, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Raul Luna said. Paramedics took the unconscious baby to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead as a result of massive trauma at 10:10 p.m.
The mother, Zavaleta Valle, 44, was caring for her three children when the accident occurred. About two minutes after she entered the bathroom, she heard two of her children in a commotion, rushed out to them and saw the boy on the concrete below her balcony, Luna said.
“It appears the child opened the closed, but unlocked, front door of the apartment, walked out to the balcony, climbed onto the railing, slipped and fell,” he said.
Police and the Santa Ana Planning and Building Department are investigating.
