Southern Baptists

“Baptists Urge Prayer for Jews’ Conversion” (Sept. 5), saying that Southern Baptists in Fort Worth, Texas, are asking their members to pray that Jews will convert to Christianity during the Jewish High Holidays, illustrates again how isolated and limited their leadership remains. As Jews we will pray that Southern Baptists in Fort Worth will learn humility, tolerance and acceptance of “all God’s children.” It would not hurt if they would recall God’s commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

A small item about the Southern Baptists of Texas caught my eye. I’ll never understand these people. They must consider Judaism and Jews inferior. Yet they worship a Jew (Jesus). The basis of their religious philosophy lies in the Hebrew Bible. They call it “the Old Testament.” What makes this despicable is that the Baptists want to do this conversion during the High Holidays of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana. Shame on them.
