Monday Night Ratings Up
The “Monday Night Football” experiment is over and so are the plummeting television ratings.
ABC posted a 16.1 national rating and a 27 share Monday night in the first regular season game since the network returned “MNF” to a 6 p.m. Pacific time start.
Last season was the first time in its 29-year history that the program began at 5 p.m. PT and “MNF” finished with a 13.9 rating, lowest in its history.
Miami’s 38-21 victory over Denver on Monday night increased 9% from last season’s opener between New England and Denver.
ABC made the time change before last season hoping that ratings would increase with an earlier kickoff on the East Coast. However, the amount of viewers on the West Coast dropped dramatically.
All eight of the metered markets on the West Coast increased from 1998, including a 12% jump in Los Angeles.
