‘Writing on the Wall’ at Bitter Truth Reflects Concerns of Teenagers

Share

Teenagers’ concerns about the challenges, difficulties and dangers in their world and in the world at large are explored in “Writing on the Wall,” Sunday at the Bitter Truth Theatre in North Hollywood. Subtitled “The Voices of Girls in Jail,” the play is about an art therapist’s work with young women in a correctional youth facility, using art as communication and a way out of cycles of abuse, neglect and crime.

The multicultural play, which also suggests that graffiti is “the writing on the wall” that may presage the fall of a nation, is presented by Theatre of Hope for Abused Women with a message of hope and redemption. It was written by art therapist Janet Bernson, who also directs, and by actress Julia Parmenter.

The theater is at 11050 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood. The play runs Sundays at 2 p.m. through September and Sundays at 7 p.m. in October. Ends Oct. 31. $12. Information: (818) 766-9702.
