Edison Is 3-0 After 42-27 Victory

Darryl Poston rushed for 225 yards in 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Edison to a 42-27 nonleague victory over host Capistrano Valley Friday night.

It was all offense in the first half as the teams combined for 616 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 possessions.

Poston scored on runs of 26, 47 and 46 yards, and finished the first half with 195 yards rushing for the Chargers (3-0).

Quarterback Richard Schwartz completed 13 of 18 passes for 249 yards. Schwartz threw two first-half touchdown passes, six yards to Brendon Cornell and 11 yards to Christian Prelle, to help his team to a 35-20 halftime lead.

Cornell caught four passes for 50 yards.

The Cougars (0-2) were led by quarterback Jeff Dixon, who threw for 198 yards, completing 13 of 23 pass attempts. Dixon threw one touchdown pass of 37 yards to running back Daniel Chapman.

Chapman carried the ball 17 times for 99 yards, including a four-yard touchdown run, and also caught five passes for 58 yards.

Grant Melton gained 85 yards in 13 carries, including touchdown runs of three and one yard for the Cougars.

Edison’s Jimmy Thorson led all receivers, catching six passes for 166 yards.

For Capistrano Valley, James Bosma had four catches for 83 yards and Tristan Gowing had two catches for 40 yards.

Edison capped its scoring on a one-yard run by Steve Greyshock near the end of the third quarter.
