Century’s Rivera Proves to Be Long Distance Carrier

Share

Fortino Rivera rushed for 246 yards and had three touchdowns, two on 72-yard runs, as Century defeated Norwalk Glenn, 20-7, in a nonleague football game at Santa Ana Stadium.

After Glenn scored early in the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead, Rivera went to work.

His first long touchdown run came on the first play after the kickoff. Giovanni Alcarez passed to Carlos Castellanos for the two-point conversion and a 14-7 Centurion lead.

With 10:21 left in the game, Rivera duplicated the feat, shortly after Glenn’s Zach Kosareff missed a field-goal attempt.

Century (1-1) limited the Eagle offense to 132 yards, sacking quarterback Tyler Groves three times and recovering a fumble.

Both teams had trouble moving the ball in the first half, with Century gaining 72 yards.

The only score of the half came with 1:27 to play, when Rivera blocked a Kosareff punt and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.

Glenn (0-2) scored its first points of the year when Groves ran one yard for a touchdown early in the second half.

Groves was 13 of 28 for 84 yards for the Eagles, who were led on the ground by Mike So with 40 yards in 11 carries.
