Deputy Yvonne Giles, a seven-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, has been selected Officer of the Year by the Camarillo Optimist Club.

“Deputy Giles is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the residents of Camarillo. She demonstrates this loyalty and dedication every day and willingly goes the extra mile to help citizens and peers,” said Eric Nishimoto, a sheriff’s spokesman.

During her career, Giles has worked in the county’s main jail in Ventura and on patrol in Camarillo. She recently attended a training program and is now teaching new patrol deputies the duties of the job.

Giles, a Camarillo native who still lives here with her two children, comes from a law enforcement family. Her father, Steve Giles, is a 30-year veteran, and her aunt was a deputy for 10 years. Her grandfather also retired from the department.
