YORBA LINDA

The City Council is looking at getting Yorba Linda into the business of golf.

On Tuesday, council members will consider issuing $21 million in bonds to build the city’s first public, but luxurious, golf course.

The 18-hole course--named Black Gold, a pseudonym for oil--would cost about $18.3 million. The course, designed by one of the world’s top course architects, would be a “great golf experience,” said David Gruchow, assistant city manager.

The 200-acre golf course would be in the heart of Shell Oil Co.’s 2,000-house development, north of Imperial Highway at the base of the Chino foothills.
