Ex-City Finance Chief Sentenced in Theft

Share

A former city finance director who pleaded no contest to a charge that he stole thousands of dollars from city coffers was sentenced Monday to 60 days’ electronic monitoring, 200 hours’ community service and three years’ probation, officials said.

Lou Delgado, 46, of Sierra Madre has paid $9,300 in restitution--the amount prosecutors could prove he took--as part of his plea agreement. Authorities suspect Delgado was responsible for stealing more than $20,000, which was discovered missing from city accounts, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Arunas Sodonis.

Delgado was charged in January with one count of felony misappropriation of public funds by a public official. An independent audit commissioned last November found the money had disappeared between 1996 and September 1997, city officials said.
