Police arrested a man Monday believed responsible for 11 robberies in the San Fernando Valley in the last two weeks.

Burbank Police Department officers arrested William Mayhugh, 29, of Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery and turned him over to the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division. Mayhugh was being held in Van Nuys Jail.

“The method of operation is similar,” said LAPD Det. John Krulac. “He approached people on the street, usually with a gun or knife--and sometimes both--and took their money or their wallets.”

Two Burbank officers stopped Mayhugh about 12:45 a.m., because the car he was driving fit the description of the one used in the North Hollywood robberies. The car had been reported stolen in the Hollywood area, police said.

Krulac said Mayhugh is believed responsible for 11 robberies--seven last week and four Sunday night.

Investigation of the robberies is continuing, detectives said.
