Four friends of John Bruns, who died in 1951 while serving in the Korean War, urged the City Council on Monday night to correct a street name honoring him that is misspelled.

Bruno Drive in Tustin Ranch was one of several in the area named about seven years ago after local servicemen killed in action.

Members of the Tustin Union High School class of 1949 are fighting to change the street name, saying that the memory of their former class president deserves this respect. “He has no legacy and was an only child,” said Marjorie Alexander Gorrie, who knew Bruns throughout school. “He didn’t take the option not to fight. He was a brave man and deserves to be recognized.”

Councilman Thomas R. Saltarelli said the city will have a street to honor Bruns, whether it corrects its mistake or names a new street after him.
