Grand Canyon
* Re “Motor Rafts Create a Great Divide in Grand Canyon,” Sept. 19: As someone who has enjoyed a motorized raft trip through the Grand Canyon, I am dismayed that there are those who would deny all but the very healthy and hardy this experience. The number of rafts, dories and other means of travel on the river is regulated and thus they are well spaced on the journey. The noise of the motor was not disturbing to wildlife or people.
Yes, the motorized rafts carry more supplies and portable toilets. The people enjoyed fresh (frozen) meats, etc., at mealtimes and not the freeze-dried meals, as the non-motorized people do. The portable toilets mean that human waste is not left along the canyon, which I consider a good thing.
