Toy maker Playmobile is recalling 5,500 toy flashlights that came with its Coastal Search and Rescue Boats toy sets because the spring in the flashlight’s battery compartment can dislodge and cause the batteries to overheat or leak.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Wednesday, said the toy sets had been sold from July through September for about $40 and came with a boat, raft, diver and captain.

The manufacturer, Sonca Products of Hong Kong, received two reports of minor property damage and of two minor injuries from the flashlight.

Toy set owners should take the flashlight, not the entire toy, away from children and call (800) 669-6394 to receive a $5 refund.

The commission also announced a recall of more than 2,800 Buffalo Fluorescent Work Lights, which are made by New Buffalo Corp. of Chesterfield, Mo., because the work lights have undersized wiring and exposed electrical parts on the plug that could shock consumers or cause fires. No injuries have been reported, the commission said.

Hardware and auto supply stores sold the work lights, with model numbers PL-16, from March 1996 to December 1998 for $13.

Consumers should call (800) 568-6657 to find out how to obtain a refund, the commission said.
