The Ventura County chapter of Amnesty International has scheduled a panel discussion called “Not Part of My Sentence” for tonight, following a recent report by the human rights organization saying that sexual misconduct and other abuse of incarcerated women are commonplace in prison.

The panel will include Carrie L. Hempel, a law professor at USC who works with women in Frontera prison; Margaret Oberon, the Catholic correction chaplain for Ventura County; Kum-Kum Bhavnani, a sociologist at UC Santa Barbara, and Mary Sylla, who monitors jail conditions for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring paperback books for use by imprisoned women.
