FOCUS: ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY NEWS : IRVINE
A sociable, 4-foot-tall robot caused quite a stir at City Hall this week, greeting passers-by in the lobby and chatting cheerfully, if a bit mechanically.
The debut of “Cycler” was part of Irvine’s Prevent Pollution Week, which ends Sunday.
“Cycler’s” ears are constructed of crushed aluminum cans, his torso of 2-liter soda bottles and his arms of recycled tubing and newspaper comic strips.
To move around, “Cycler” chews on recycled batteries, said the robot, which is owned by Waste Management of Orange County.
