Spanish police have seized 575,000 fake Teletubby dolls from seven warehouses in southern Madrid, news reports said Saturday.

The counterfeit dolls are based on the characters in the popular children’s television series produced by the British Broadcasting Corp.

Friday’s raid stemmed from a complaint by BBC Worldwide, which has a patent on sales of the dolls, about sales of fake Teletubbies in Spain, the Spanish daily El Pais reported.

The discovery of fake dolls in Madrid wholesale shops led police to the warehouses, which also contained counterfeit versions of toys copyrighted by Warner Bros. and Walt Disney Co., the paper said.

Police in Madrid said they discovered 15,000 counterfeit Disney products and 10,000 copied Warner Bros. toys.

Ten people were arrested in the latest operation, police said.
