Group to Teach Anti-Hate Program

Share

The Anti-Defamation League begins a program today to train probation officers, teachers and others to deal with a rise in hate crimes by youth in the county.

Called “Eliminate the Hate,” the program is a cooperative effort between the Ventura County Probation Department and the Los Angeles-based ADL’s World of Difference Institute. The first phase of the program will train the 24 staff members of Colston Youth Center in Ventura and will eventually include an advisory council and community outreach programs and forums.

“This is the first program of its kind in Ventura County,” said Julie Flapan, the project director. “We’ve got to do something to address the increase in bias.”

The institute has trained more than 350,000 teachers nationwide and more than 100,000 in the state.
