The Planning Commission will meet Wednesday to vote on whether to shut down a local tree-trimming business.

Yorba Linda planning officials are recommending that Tree Smith Enterprises Inc., on Richfield Road, be allowed to keep its permit.

A letter of complaint by neighbors in early 1998 prompted the commission to look into reports of alleged code violations, including excessive noise, air pollution and other problems.

Since then, officials said, the business has put shrubs around the property and scaled back its business hours after the city in March 1998 started the process to revoke its permit.

Planning and code enforcement officials have since been working closely with the tree trimmers to make the business meet city code regulations, said Patricia Haley, the city’s community development director. She has recommended the Planning Commission stop seeking to revoke the permit.

The owner, Floyd Tom Smith, was unavailable for comment.
