The badly decomposed body of a full-term baby was discovered Tuesday in the Verdugo Wash, police said.
The Glendale Police Department received a call at about 11:15 a.m. from an unidentified person who said something had been spotted in the wash, said Sgt. Rick Young.
“The officers went down and found a full-term infant child with the umbilical cord still attached, partially decomposing,” Young said.
Police believe the baby was placed into a storm drain along Glenoaks Boulevard and was carried about 200 feet down the drain into the wash, Young said.
The baby’s body was so decomposed that officers were unable to determine its race or when it was born. The coroner’s office will make that determination, Young said.
