Forty tons of bread, flour, beans, rice, baby food, cereal, juice and other nonperishables will be available for the taking Friday and Saturday at the New Christ Memorial Church’s fourth annual food distribution and block party.

Headed by the Grammy-winning, gospel-singing twin pastors Andrae and Sandra Crouch, the event will also provide clothes and tennis shoes to the needy.

Once the trucks full of food arrive Friday afternoon, volunteers will box and prepare the items for distribution.

“We never turn anyone away,” said Sandra Crouch, co-pastor of the church. “We want to give back to the community.”

Church officials estimated about 15,000 people will attend the block party, which also includes a magic show, petting zoo, carnival rides and performances by the Crouch twins and other surprise guests.

The event runs from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday at the church, 13333 Vaughn St.
