Boeing Co. has received about $2.2 billion in new orders from two airlines, including the first orders for its new 777-300X model. Japan Airlines Co. will take possession of the first 777-300X by 2004 and seven more by 2008, Boeing said. Boeing did not give a value for the eight-plane order, but based on company list prices it would be worth about $1.5 billion. The twin-engine 777-300X is an extended-range version of the 777-300, capable of flying 8,300 miles, compared with 6,854 miles for the earlier model. At a bit more than 242 feet, the 777-300 is the longest commercial jet built and can be configured to carry up to 359 passengers. British carrier EasyJet also placed firm orders for 17 smaller 737-700s, worth $765 million to $850 million, depending on interiors selected by the airline. Deliveries are to begin in July 2001. Boeing shares closed off 81 cents at $37.81 on the NYSE.
