Islands Advisory Panel Has Opening

A member of the public is needed to serve on the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council to help guide the federal agency overseeing 1,658 square miles of ocean off the Ventura County coast.

The council’s 20 members serve three-year terms and provide advice on issues of marine resource education, protection and research. Attendance at bimonthly meetings is required.

The sanctuary is a federally managed zone encompassing five of the Channel Islands. It is home to numerous marine animals, shipping lanes, fishing grounds and archeological sites, including 200 shipwrecks.
