Boy, 6, Denies Shooting Classmate
The 6-year-old Michigan boy accused of fatally shooting a first-grade classmate said at a court hearing Friday that he remembered the girl being shot but he did not fire a gun at her.
The boy, speaking in a whisper and at the prompting of attorneys, said he remembered classmate Kayla Rolland, 6, being shot. But when asked if he shot her, the boy shook his head no and said someone else did it.
The boy, who has been neither identified nor charged because of his age, testified at a hearing for Jamelle James, 19, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Feb. 29 shooting. Police say James carelessly left a semiautomatic handgun in an open shoebox in the home where he and the boy lived.
The hearing will resume Tuesday.
